Proven Assault And Battery Defense

All criminal charges are serious, but crimes involving acts of violence have a tendency to stand out on a background check. This can result in the penalty you pay for a criminal conviction and extend well beyond the length of your sentence. The best way to avoid the criminal and collateral consequences of a conviction is to put a proven criminal defense lawyer on your side.

If you have been charged with assault and battery in Illinois, you can rely on me to defend your case as if it were my own. I am Alan E. Jones, and I bring more than 30 years of criminal defense experience to the cases I take on in Lake County and the surrounding areas of Illinois. I am a skilled negotiator who will not hesitate to fight for your rights at trial when necessary to achieve an outcome that is in your best interest.

What Is Assault And Battery?

Assault and battery can be charged separately but are often charged together when they stem from the same incident. Assault is defined as threatening to inflict physical harm. Battery charges stem from accusations of conduct that has resulted in bodily harm or insulting/provoking contact to another. Whether you face charges of assault, battery, or assault and battery, it is important to understand the potential consequences.

What Are The Consequences Of Assault And Battery In Illinois?

Assault and battery are misdemeanors, while aggravated assault and battery – such as assault with a deadly weapon or battery resulting in serious injury – are felony charges. A misdemeanor conviction can result in up to 365 days in prison and/or a $2,500 fine, up to two years of probation, community service and restitution. A felony conviction can result in a fine of as high as $25,000, a prison sentence as long as 10 years, restitution and up to 30 months of probation.
